Chronology of Diplomatic Relations
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Cyprus were established on 9 July 1992.
Georgia opened an Embassy in the Republic of Cyprus in 2008.
Fields of cooperation
The bilateral relations between the two countries are dynamically developing.
Eight international agreements between Georgia and the Republic of Cyprus are concluded, regulating cooperation in areas of trade, double taxation, education, science, civil and criminal law issues, air transportation and visa free regime for diplomatic and service passports holders.
With the aim to further promote economic cooperation, Georgian-Cypriot Business Association was established in Nicosia on November 5, 2015.
On August 7, 2018 Mr. David Narcia was appointed as the Honorable Consul of the Republic of Cyprus in Tbilisi, who will execute his authorities in the territory of Georgia.
An important part of historic and cultural relations is a Georgian Monastery of Holy Mother in Ghalia. Excavation works began in 2006 and archeological area was officially opened on 29 April 2014. An exhibition of Georgian artifacts, discovered in Ghalia Monastery was held in Tbilisi on 5 December 2015.
On January 4, 2018, the government of Cyprus and Archbishop of the country Chrysostomos II have made an unprecedented decision to gift Georgia 12,295 square meters of land to build Georgian monastery complex.
