On 28 August 2026, on the occasion of the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God, a divine service was held at the historic Georgian Monastery of Gialia in Cyprus.
Eighteen years have passed since the full-scale military aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Georgia. In August 2008, disregarding the fundamental norms and principles of international law, Russia carried out the illegal occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region - inalienable parts of Georgia’s territory - and recognised their so-called independence.
On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war, the national flags are flown at half-mast at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as at Georgia’s diplomatic representations and consular offices abroad, to honour the memory of those who lost their lives.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia announces the launch of the “Georgian Taste” grant competition. The programme aims to promote Georgian cuisine abroad, encourage the involvement of Georgian diaspora members in introducing Georgian dishes, recipes, and culinary traditions, organise culinary events, workshops, and camps where participants can actively learn how to prepare traditional Georgian dishes, and support Georgian restaurants, culinary clubs, and Georgian Sunday school projects established by the diaspora, with the involvement of Georgia’s diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad.
