“Today Marks a Proud Chapter in the Long and Resilient History of Your Country” — Cyprus’ Minister of Culture Congratulates the Georgian People on Independence Day

“Today Marks a Proud Chapter in the Long and Resilient History of Your Country” — Cyprus’ Minister of Culture Congratulates the Georgian People on Independence Day.

The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Lina Kassianidou, attended the event held in the Republic of Cyprus on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day. In her address, she spoke about the centuries-old relationship between Georgia and Cyprus and the close ties between the two peoples.

“I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the Georgian people. This celebration marks a proud chapter in the long and resilient history of your country. I wish Georgia peace, stability, prosperity, and progress. Cyprus and Georgia are connected through close people-to-people relations founded on shared history, culture, and faith.

We are especially pleased to host in Cyprus a strong and active Georgian diaspora, which serves as a true bridge of friendship between Cyprus and Georgia,” the Minister stated.

She also spoke about the monastic life that existed in Cyprus centuries ago as evidence of the historical roots connecting the two nations:
“The presence of Georgians in Cyprus dates back many centuries. Historical sources remind us that as early as the 10th century, Georgian monks arrived in Cyprus, founded a monastery, and established monastic life in the Paphos region, in Yalia, which stands as proof of the deep historical roots between our two peoples.”
The Minister also expressed Cyprus’ support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The Republic of Cyprus reaffirms its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders. I extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Georgian people,” the Minister said.

On the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day, the Embassy of Georgia in Cyprus hosted an exhibition showcasing Georgian cultural heritage preserved in Cyprus.
